Trips

Throughout the calendar year, we run a variety of coach day trips throughout the UK to a variety of gardens, castles and National Trust properties. Some of our past trips have included Highgrove; Garden of HRH Prince Charles, Blenheim Palace; birthplace of Winston Churchill, Stocktonbury; the official garden of The English Garden Magazine and of course, a whole host of RHS gardens. Some of our best loved trips are those to gardens not normally opened to the public which provides a unique insight into somewhere you’re unlikely to visit again, and often a personal tour or chat with the garden owners.

As well as gardens, stately homes and castles, we also provide seasonal trips ranging from Christmas markets, Malvern show, steam train rides, boat cruises in Bristol and Windsor and most infamously - our boat trip to Flatholm Island off the coast of the Vale. We have been known to arrange Sunday lunches in local pubs, enjoy a cream tea wherever we go and have even celebrated Christmas together complete with roast, crackers and paper hats.

In 2019, picking up where we left off several years ago, the society organised a 5 day coach trip to Yorkshire, staying with Warner Leisure where we explored the countryside, enjoyed plenty a cup of Yorkshire tea and some goodies from Betty’s famous tearooms and filled the coach with plants to take home with us. As with most things, the pandemic put a stop to coach trips for a few years but in 2023 we were back with a bang including another 5 day coach trip to the Isle of Wight - with glorious weather to boot!

All of our coach trips are organised in conjunction with local travel company Pencoed Travel and each coach trip includes a raffle and a quiz, and the all important prize. The prices of our coach trips vary and are not included in your membership fee but trips are not exclusive to society members and everyone is welcomed.
